Our Services / AI Consulting and Services for Australian Business

AI consulting that starts from your data, not a slide deck

Most AI consulting begins with workshops and ends with a strategy document. Ours begins with evidence: as your managed services provider, we analyse what your team actually does, find the processes worth automating, then build, govern and prove the result.

What is AI consulting?

AI consulting is the discipline of deciding where artificial intelligence should and should not be used in a business, then making the chosen uses safe, governed and measurable. A good AI consultant answers four questions: which of your processes are worth automating, who is accountable when AI acts on your behalf, how you stay compliant as Australian AI regulation tightens, and whether the investment actually paid off. Generic strategy firms answer the first question with interviews. Epic IT answers all four with evidence, because your ticketing, finance, email and file systems already run on infrastructure we manage.

Consultants who also run your systems

A traditional consultant asks your staff what happens and writes down what they say. We can see what happens. Ticket volumes, task durations, approval bottlenecks, the requests that bounce twice before they land: the evidence of how your business really operates lives in your operational data, and analysing it is where our recommendations start.

That produces a different kind of advice: costed per process, honest about what should stay human, and immediately buildable.

Advice that is immediately buildable

Our recommendations are constrained by what we are willing to build and operate. The same Perth-based team that recommends an automation delivers it on Epic AI Platform, our governed environment covering Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise and Anthropic’s Claude, and stands behind it in production.

Strategy firms hand you a roadmap and leave. We are still here at the monthly review, accountable for whether the recommendation worked.

What an engagement looks like

  1. Discover. We map your business processes and analyse your operational data to find where time and money actually go. You receive an opportunity assessment per process: what it costs you today, and whether the right answer is leave it, improve it, or automate it.
  2. Design. For processes worth automating, we design the accountability before the automation: which team the AI works in, who owns it, who supervises its output, and which actions always require a human’s approval. If an AI agent is going to do a person’s recurring work, it gets managed like a person: a defined job, a named manager, and reviews.
  3. Deliver. Agents are built and run on Epic AI Platform, our governed environment where every AI action is identified, permission-checked and logged. Changes to what an agent can do are formally approved and version-controlled, the same discipline applied to business software.
  4. Prove. You see outcomes, costs, and the comparison against what the work cost before, reviewed with you on a regular cadence. Recommendations for the next process come from the results of the last one.

Inside the opportunity assessment

The core deliverable of the discovery phase is a written opportunity assessment for each business process we examine. It is designed for a managing director, not an engineer.

What the process costs you today

Volume, time per instance and the annual cost at your real labour rates, drawn from your operational data wherever your systems can supply it and agreed with you as a stated assumption where they cannot. No modelled savings theatre: every number in the assessment is one you can defend to your own board.

Three options, each costed

For every process: leave it as it is, improve it without AI, or automate it, with the automation priced. Some processes should stay human, and the assessment says so when that is the honest answer. You choose the sequence; we recommend one and explain why.

The accountability design

For anything worth automating, the assessment names the accountability up front: which part of your business the agent works in, who owns it, who supervises its output, and which actions always pause for a human. This is the design your auditor and insurer will eventually ask to see, written before the build starts.

A roadmap that survives contact

Priorities ordered by value and readiness, revisited on a regular review cadence as results come in. Because the same team delivers the builds, the roadmap is grounded in what can actually ship, not in what a slide can promise.

Built for where Australian regulation is going

The September 2026 update to the ASD’s Information Security Manual treats AI agents as principals in their own right: each needs its own identity, a register, least privilege, and a human in the loop before sensitive actions. ISO/IEC 42001 asks organisations for the same accountability, the Australian Government is consulting on mandatory guardrails for high-risk AI, and WA’s PRIS Act now imposes obligations on automated decision-making. Our consulting bakes these requirements into the design rather than retrofitting them, our governance framework aligns with ISO 42001, and Epic IT is ISO 27001 certified. Where AI consulting sits in our services

Our AI services are progressive layers: AI Governance makes AI use safe, Managed AI connects it to your business systems, AI Agent Development and Custom AI Development build what the standard library cannot. AI consulting wraps all four: it decides what is worth building, designs the accountability, and measures whether it paid off. It relates to AI the way our Virtual CIO service relates to your infrastructure: the strategic layer above the operational one, informed by the same team that does the operating.

Professional services

Firms drowning in repeatable admin: intake, document handling, chase-ups, reporting.

Operations-heavy businesses

High ticket and request volumes where triage, scheduling and follow-up eat skilled hours.

Finance teams

Reconciliation, debtor follow-up and reporting that spans systems and never ends.

Boards asking for a plan

Organisations whose directors want to know what the AI strategy is and who is accountable for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between AI consulting and AI implementation?

AI consulting decides what to automate, what the accountability looks like, and whether it paid off. Implementation builds it. Most firms do one or the other; we do both, which means our advice is constrained by what we are willing to build and operate, and our builds are shaped by a costed business case rather than enthusiasm. See AI Agent Development for the build side.

How is AI consulting different from a vCIO?

A Virtual CIO gives you strategic leadership over your technology environment: infrastructure, security, budgets and roadmaps. AI consulting applies the same strategic discipline to your business processes: what work AI should do, under whose accountability, and with what return. The two pair naturally, and both draw on the fact that we operate the systems the strategy is about.

How much does AI consulting cost in Perth?

Engagements start with a free AI readiness assessment. Paid AI consulting is scoped per engagement; typical process discovery and opportunity assessment work is a fixed-fee engagement, with automation delivery quoted separately once the business case is agreed. We share concrete pricing at the assessment.

How long does an engagement take?

Process discovery and the opportunity assessment are a short, fixed engagement measured in weeks, because most of the evidence already exists in your systems. Automation delivery is scoped per build once you choose what to proceed with, and the review cadence continues for as long as agents are running.

Do you use our business data in the analysis?

Yes, with your approval and within your existing agreement’s confidentiality and security terms: that is the point. Recommendations grounded in your real ticket volumes, task durations and system usage are worth more than recommendations from interviews. Your data stays within the security controls of your managed services agreement, and Epic IT is ISO 27001 certified.

Who is accountable when an AI agent acts for our business?

A named person in your business, always. Every agent we deploy has an accountable owner and a day-to-day supervisor, and actions above an agreed risk threshold require human approval before they run. AI accountability is designed in at the start of the engagement, not bolted on.

Do we need to be an Epic IT managed services client?

Yes. The AI consulting model depends on operational evidence and a governed platform, both of which come with the managed services relationship. If you are not yet a client, the AI readiness assessment is the right first conversation.

What is the first step?

A free AI readiness assessment: we map your current AI use, your shadow AI exposure, and your highest-value opportunities, and recommend a starting point. No obligation, and you keep the report.
