Starick is a Perth-based not-for-profit providing crisis accommodation, counselling, and support services to women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Operating across multiple sites in Perth’s South East Corridor, Starick’s on-premise IT infrastructure was aging and increasingly difficult to maintain on a limited budget.
Epic IT designed a cloud-first migration leveraging Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Philanthropies nonprofit licensing to modernise Starick’s entire IT and communications infrastructure while minimising cost. The result: a secure, modern cloud platform supporting critical services across multiple sites.

Starick's on-premise IT infrastructure was aging and increasingly difficult to maintain
Operating across multiple sites in Perth’s South East Corridor, Starick’s on-premise IT infrastructure was aging and increasingly difficult to maintain — and the organisation’s traditional copper telephone lines were expensive and inflexible for a team that needed to be reachable across dispersed locations.
As a charity handling highly sensitive client data, security and reliability were non-negotiable. But as an NFP, every dollar spent on IT infrastructure was a dollar not spent on frontline services.
Epic IT designed a cloud-first migration that modernised Starick's entire IT and communications infrastructure while minimising cost
Epic IT designed a cloud-first migration that modernised Starick’s entire IT and communications infrastructure while minimising cost:
1. Microsoft 365 migration — Migrated email, file storage, and collaboration to Microsoft 365, providing secure cloud-based access from any location
2. Azure cloud deployment — Established Azure infrastructure to replace on-premise servers, with security configurations appropriate for sensitive client data
3. Microsoft Philanthropies licensing — Secured heavily discounted Microsoft Philanthropies credits to significantly reduce ongoing software and cloud costs
4. NBN consolidation — Consolidated connectivity across sites onto NBN, replacing expensive legacy connections
5. Cloud telephony — Replaced copper telephone lines with a cloud phone system, reducing line rental costs and enabling staff to receive calls from any device at any location
Starick now operates on a modern, secure cloud platform that supports their critical work across multiple sites without the burden of maintaining on-premise hardware
Starick now operates on a modern, secure cloud platform that supports their critical work across multiple sites without the burden of maintaining on-premise hardware. The Microsoft Philanthropies licensing significantly reduced ongoing IT costs, redirecting funds back to frontline domestic violence support services. The cloud telephony deployment ensures staff are always reachable, regardless of which site they’re working from — a vital capability for crisis response.
